i have $50 burning a hole in my pocket and i am looking to pick up a small to mid size hatchet for general wood chopping, splitting and shaping.

i am looking at the CS trailhawk or the wetterlings 20 inch hatchet.

any others i should take a look at? budget is fairly low, so i'm looking for really good deals.

i think the fiskars series are pretty cheap, I have an older gerber that just keeps on ticking that was 40 or so.

For that much you could get the Fiskar's hatchet and the Trail Hawk. I've got the Fiskar's and it's great. I wouldn't say that either are well lent to full splitting duties, though.

I love my CS Norse hawk but would like one of those H&B's even better. They are probably the best hawk in your price range and the Wetterlings the best axe. There is a double bit Marble on the Ragweed forge site that looks interesting.

Id say that if you dont mind a little work, The CS trail would make a great project. Also, with $50, you could buy one of them, pay for stain, varnish, paracord wrap, ect, and still have $20 in your pocket.

Im glad I came across the Modded CS Hawk thread, its proving to be a lot of fun turning a $20 piece of wood and steel into something that you can make very useful and unique.
