I got a $50 gift certificate to Amazon, and I am completely torn whether to get a Sharpmaker or a Becker BK2...

I would suggest a Lansky Sharpening System. I strongly perfer it to the SharpMaker.

You could always give it to me.... I recommend the Lansky diamond pro kit. I love mine. I just reprofiled a Strider SMF CC to a mirror polished 20 degree razor edge. The Lansky system is fool proof with pro results. Remember, knives come and go but odds are your sharpening system will be with you for life.
