And you can make your own sharpener as well! I've mentioned it a few times. Well, here it is. 1" thick 6061 t6 billet aluminum base, and 3/8" 15-5 stainless steel rod. Used 2 neodymium magnets to hold the blade in place-30lb each. The pivot joint, and brackets holding the stone were made from individual 3/4"X 1" 6061 billets blocks. A 3/16" shoulder bolt with 6-32 threads through the one pair to create the pivot. It is held & height adjusted by two 3/8" stainless stop collars, with a third used to account for stone thickness. Finally the stone holding brackets I cut and shaped by hand. The one is held in place by 6-32 set screws. I can achieve less than 1 degree bevel angle. Less than $60 total to build. Thing is build to survive a nuclear blast, but has the precision of any on the market.

Thanks guys. But it's actually easier than you think. The hard part was already done. Obviously, Edge Pro already put the design work into it. Others, including me have used that same idea. In essence "copying" it. My only design criteria was overcoming the weaknesses of the Edge Pro. The biggest issue is it absolutely required the blade be held in place, to achieve one hand operation...as my left arm/hand is paralyzed. The other parts were easy: achieving almost 0 degree bevel capability, etc. Sure, being a former Master Auto Technician helped. As it helped me building race car/bike engines, and as it helps me building firearms and making custom knives.

Where did you pick up the materials for the build, specifically the billet for the base? This set-up looks like it would last several lifetimes. Good stuff.

These items I ordered from Amazon. But I use Midwest Steel and Aluminum if I need more than just 1 piece. Amazon has a pretty good selection though. I believe the use Online Metals Supply mostly.

It will indeed last a few lifetimes! It weighs about 12lbs!

Looks good, I'm going to have to give it a try. Thanks for the heads up.

My pleasure. Make sure you get a 6-32 tap, a 1/4"-20 tap and 3/8"-16 tap & die(need the 3/8" die for threads on the upright rod the pivot mounts to, which controls bevel angle.). Those were the specs I chose anyway. And please reach out if you have any questions. You will be very pleased with the outcome.
