:o ...I picked up a virtually brand new 500 Duke the other day for the insane price of about $15 thru Ebay...It is nearly perfect along with the sheath. The problem I have is it's marked on the blade with something commemorating a company's zero defect performance or something to that effect. I can't get that black lettering off to save my tarnished soul...It seems to actually be raised slightly above the surface but I can't seem to even touch it with a razor blade. Any suggestions as to what this stuff is and how in the world can I get it off???...

 ...I'll give it a try...but as it "seems" to be an actual "raised" deposit of some kind I'm not sure if an etch would do that. I'll try the naval jelly tho, gotta use it up fast anyway...My wife had it out earlier . I think she was gonna feed me a peanut butter sandwich with the stuff...I'll see if the kid left the camera in her room....

Hi DarrylS,

I agree with trax about the pic's, before, during, and after. After your navy jelly Buck sandwich; try a buffing wheel!

...Haven't touched it yet as the kids are all here to harass me about my "knife fetish"...LOL...Here's a couple of pics of the knife as it is now tho...

...Here's another showing the lettering a bit better...

 ...Tried that Jake...Left it just the way you see it...Startin' to think that if it wants to hang that tough I may just leave it on there..Just never had a soft spot for anything "on" the blades of my knives...

 ...Actually it was $15.51:eek: ...LOL...It does have to be the best "find" I've ever gotten off of Ebay. Just a few months back I bought one in the same condition for $55 and I was happy to get it. I don't usually get great finds on almost new stuff on Ebay. I've actually been limiting what I buy to "beaters" that need to be rebuilt or rebladed for whatever reason. I picked up a NS 112 that was junk for $17 and made it into something that's as nice as could be. The picture on Ebay made it look much better than it was...LOL...I do love the 500 series knives tho...I was lucky to get this one...:)
