About a year ago there was talk of a book by Lark Books in the 500 Series. I believe that John Jensen Lewis was involved in this. A year later the book hasn't been published and on their website there is no mention about this book (anymore?). Is there anyone who can enlighten me/us about the status of this book.

Thanks,

Marcel

This post prompted me to send a note to Marthe LeVan to get a status check.

At around the Blade Show, John Jensen lamented he had about 350 images and makers info prepared. Many of them were clients of mine, and we all had done considerable work supplying the editors in the proper format for their printers.

I mentioned that if he was stuck and needed a library of images and makers to draw from, I still had scads of quality photographs of stunning knives that hadn't been sent in. I sent him a link to my online library to pick and choose, and for them, it was the achieving moment to be able to continue the process. I then spent considerable time providing files and contacts to makers.

In the end, I have been told, it made all the difference. Let's hope.

News soon.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your message, and what perfect timing! I began working on the
page layout for the book today, and just took a break to check my email.
Voila...a message from you!

Here is the timeline for "500 Knives."

November 15 - The book goes from Lark's editorial team to the graphic
designer

January 15 - The book goes from Lark to the printer for proofing (Also at
this time, letters of notification will be sent to all entrants stating
which images were accepted and which were declined.)

June 9 - Advance printed and bound copies arrive at Lark (limited number)

July 21 - Books arrive in the warehouse for distribution

It is safe to say that the books will be available in the stores in late
July or early August. Contributors will be sent their complimentary copy
around that time. Feel free to share this information with the Blade forum.
I am glad there is a buzz around the book.

Please let me know how I can be of further assistance at any time.

With Kindest Regards,

Marthe
Well, this is reassuring news indeed. And this is how professional this project has been from all my conversations. I am not surprised at the timeline.

I look forward to yet another fine book of knives, and this is one from a more a 'mainstream' publisher. Good for US!

Yes, that is GOOD news Coop in that this book has the potential to bring many new enthusiast into the custom knife community.

I had no idea this had been put on hold, but am glad it's back on track. I'd heard about a couple of knives that were supposed to be included in it - still hope they will be. Ah, a mainstream coffee table book of knives!!

This is great news.
I have three of the "500" books on other art/crafts, and they're really first class. This will only help knifemakers and collectors, besides giving us all something extra to look at.
And, thanks to Coop for stepping forward to help.

Good to hear that this project is going forward (and not has been canceled). Although waiting for almost another year is not fun;)
I too know of a couple of makers and knives that are hopefully in the book. Coop thanks for the update.

Having such a big staff and working for so many years, I do hope
they will come up with something truly amazing!

Other books in the 500 series ARE quite amazing....

All the best,

Interesting. I hadn't heard of the "500" series before.

Sounds like a book to watch for.

Thanks,
Peter

Thanks for the update, Kevin. The book had somehow come off my radar screen. I have been looking forward to this book ever since I heard about it from a knifemaker last year.

Yep, got a letter this week saying I'll have a couple in the book. If this one is as nice as some of the other 500 series, it should bring a broad selection of knives to a whole new and general audience.
