Since this is my 500th post on BladeForums, I decided to give away two items. First of all a Schrade/Craftsman bowie and sheath, well-loved, and secondly, the job of putting a proper grind on the blade and dying and oiling the sheath. This knife combo looks like hell right now, but with a little care it would be outstanding again, and I have MIB for myself. Criteria? Well, tell me why you should have it, and I will think about it and let you know next week sometime. My decision will be totally subjective.

I'm your Victim . . . er . . Donee because:
1. The "proper edge" work will be farmed out to a professional.
2. If the sheath can't be resurrected, I'll have a replacement made in its image.
3. The knife, with one or two sheaths (it depends), will be returned to you on your 100th Birthday and used to cut the cake. I and/or my estate will only be the caretaker until then. If you have a tragic motorcycle accident or if something unexpected should happen that prevents you from attending the event, it will be returned to your estate at that time.
4. In the meantime, it will be proudly displayed and properly cared for.

Because buying them in poor condition and slathering them with TLC is what I do. Period. They then take on a very personal place in my collection as I was the one who resurrected them. Not all of my knives are like that, but the ones that are are special to me.

love fixed blade knives the most or at least the bigger than most knives. love working with a knife to get it sharp and my definition of sharp is that it will shave the hair from my arms both sides of it. the sheath looks like all it needs is care and should not be separated from the knife, they go together.
after it is sharp plan on using it to cut nice thick steaks and meat. do not hunt so that is the best thing i can do to get it close to its made function.

I love working with knives, whether it be using them or sharpening them. I love putting a good edge on blades. I hunt, so I could use it for that purpose, or I could (but probably wouldn't) simply add it to my collection of knives (which has only a few fixed blades). As for the sheath, I don't know if it can be saved, but if it can I will; if not, I will make a new one for it (I have some leather laying around), however, I will keep the original. This is a beautiful looking knife!

and I am currently a broke, unemployed college student on summer break, so blade purchases are not happening anytime soon. :(

This puppy is an honest foot long! With a 7" stainless blade, it weighs in at 9 ounces, 15 with the goucho sheath.

Sears started selling this version of the Schrade 166 pattern in 1967 and as far as I can determine so far, less than 10,000 were made. It was in-store sales only which explains why it isn't in my Sears catalogs.

These are really cool knives and this, the #21627 "Bowie" was the largest of the four knives offered in the Craftsman American Eagle Collection set.

This is a really cool giveaway! But Codger has his already. Don't put my name in the hat please.

This is what the sheath originally looked like. It has a hand painted antique finish so no two were exactly alike.

I'm passing on this one Calvin, but a great prize. It needs to go to someone who spends a lot more time with fixed blades than I do. Sure would be a great knife to dress out a mule deer though.

Just a quick comment to Stealthchaser13.
Yup, I remember when I was a poor, broke, college student, but I usually had to get at least two Summer jobs, so I wish you best of luck curing that unemployment thing in a hurry.
And now, a word of advice regarding getting that knife. Remember that Wisdom, Experience, and Treachery will allways overcome Youth, Hard Work, and Ambition.
I'm not saying that some of us rely on Treachery every know and then, but if I were you, I wouldn't bet against us. (As he leans back with a big grin on his face.)

would love to win the knife--love old well used knives--makes you think of the stories they could tell--

Thanks for the heads up over in traditionals Calvin. This would be a great camp knife for me.

I have a thing for old fixed blades, and have a few old Schrade Waldens, but don't have one like this one.

I keep them all razor sharp and tuned up, and rotate them in use.

I live way out in the sticks and can carry a fixed blade pretty much any day.

I have two sons, between whom my collection will one day be divvied up.

They are both fond of the outdoors and love knives.

This is a very kind gesture.

Hey Cal you can send it to me as I'll pay postage for a starter and I'm your mate just ask UL :D
Also I'll say congrats on your 500th post .
I'll clean it up and post it here .:p

Then again I saw Bridgy's request is fair enough.
