I'm new here, and note that the search feature wasn't working for me, so I apologize if this question has been asked and answered already.

How has the 500 series production lock blades (esquire/squire, prince, duke) changed since the 1970's, particulary w/ respect to the overall dimensions, construction, and handle material? (I did see a post about the changes in steel in 1986 and again in 1994, I believe). I recall my prince knife purchased around 1979-1980 was advertised as having 'rosewood' handles, but now I wonder if it was simply 'rosewood colored?' Thanks for whatever info you can provide.

12stepper - WELCOME!!!!

There are several guys here that I am hoping will chime in to help answer your questions (Larry - Joe - are you out there?) but in the meantime I ran a search for "500" in the Buck Forum, and came up with these threads for you to look at. If you are familiar with the "500" Series you already know the 500 was the largest of the series, though not necessarily the most popular. I personally think the 503 is the perfect size lockback to carry in a pair of dress pants when a larger knife is not appropriate.

If you're seriously into Buck Knives, and not a member of the Buck Collector's Club, you may want to take a look at my web site. It might be something you would be interested in. Email me if you'd like more info.
