I recently discovered a 501 with a tang stamping that had eluded me for years:

BUCK
501
U.S.A.

What makes this interesting is that the stamping is block letter, NOT script and there is NO dot after the model number. Do any of you own a model
500, 501, 503 or 505/506/507 similarly stamped?

I have long wondered if knives exist with this stamping but this is the first one I have found since I knew enough to look for them. (I may have seen one early on in my collecting and did not know it was a difficult find!)

...Oh man...Now another one for me to look out for...LOL...I have six of 'em Larry...4 script and 2 block...500's and 501's...but the blocks have a year stamp on 'em...The "search" is on...

Well, today I got my first 500 series (501 LE) stag from Ira Wood. First Buck with stag for me too.
Very nice, but dont know if I'll ever use it...still hooked on my 112FG.

Nice Goose, thanks for sharing.
I've been eyeballing a 501 stag on the bay but can't get myself to pull the trigger. Your pic is making my finger tighten :D
I just picked up my first 110 FG, an older early eighties version. And now I've gotta keep a look out for a nice 112 FG to keep it company. ;)
I really like the size and utility of the 112.
Mike

You are welcome MikeSEA...
I like it alot, drop point, stag, fit, and finish, but I still prefer the 112FG. Better grip for me.
Was a decades old 110 fan until I got the 112FG in the pic. I have carried it every day since I got it a few months ago. Perfect as you said for size and utility.
I may put the 501 in my pocket if I ever go to choir practice.

Very nice Goose! I have never held a 501 and was ? the size. Looks to be about the same length as the 112; just a lot narrower. My 500 is also about the same length as the 112. But, a thad thicker than the 501. Oh and by the way this 500 has the script blade stamping.

A very knowledgeable 501 collector encouraged me to take a closer look at the 501 that is the subject of this thread. He thought I may find that due to wear and tear on the stamp, the dot following the 501 may be barely legible. Billy Arnold, I looked and you are dead on right!!! So, it appears that we are still searching for block letter tang stamped 500 series knives with no dots! I am thinking they do not exist. Also, I have been reminded of something I should have remembered at this stage of my collecting. I should always look closely and not be so quick to think I have found something new! Sorry friends. I led you down a wrong trail.

Larry, I'd follow you down any knife trail:D... Thanks for being human and setting a good example. No harm, no foul(sorry Goose and Trax:p) Preston

Larry,
The shear fact that someone with your experience in collecting Buck knives can admit to making an error and be willing to learn is a testament to your credibility and integrity.

Here's pic of the 112FG and 501LE Stag for width comparison.
Bumper sticker for UK Mav and Five-O Mike ;)
