So, it is a 501 frame modified with fingergrooves that fit my hand perfectly, Gaboon Ebony scales And a 484 Impala II 12C27M steel blade and lockbar.
All tucked into a 501 sheath, and now on my belt ;)

That's very nice Chris, I like it!

Thank you :)
I had fun doing this one.
I had it planned for a while, but had to wait till the family was in town, so I could work on it uninterupted while watching the NASCAR race today.

I'm thinking she will get her fair share of time on my belt.

DesertChris Got Talent!!!

That was fun watching the progress and very impressive to see the new 985!!:thumbup::thumbup:

That's a keeper Chris!!

I look at two very different Buck knives and see hard and fast tools of steel. You see with different eyes. You see two buck knives and see putty for your hands to work. Creative fodder, raw materials and things that could be. Well done and thank you for the illustrated/photographed process.

Looking great! I like that a lot, now you got me looking for a 501 with a stubby blade ;)
You did a nice job on this knife

Wow guys, thank you for all the kind words!
I'm sure learning a lot each time I play with these.
The best part for me, is at the end, having something unique to carry around and use.

Now I have to figure out what to do with the brand new unused blade and lockbar that came out of the 501, and the spring from the 484.....
hmmmmm, I may be formulating an idea :)

I figured it would be fun to do a quick video :)

Watch out oregon...we have another videographer on the forum!! :)

Looking forward to an update on your next project Chris.

Geez..... here I was posting a video when I should have been watching the for sale subforum......LOL
I missed the boat on your stag 309 :(
I would have absolutely loved to have gotten my hands on that........

Next project should be ready to post on Sunday, if all goes well and I get some quality "Me" time to play with knives ;)

Good work! I wasn't sure how that would work at the beginning, but it looks great!

Thank you!

Hahaha, I had my doubts too!
But they looked to be the same size blade pivot, and lockbar etc...
I did have to use the 484 lockbar for better fit and locking, but the blade pivot pin and lockbar pin were the same spacing on both knives.
Also I had to shave down the outer edge of the lockbar a tiny bit after it was assembled to be flush with everything else on the outside edge.

I wasn't sure if the thumbstud would clear the frame or not... it didn't....so that led to the fingergrooves that I figured might actually be needed:)

Why thank you sir!
I'm having great fun changing things a little on my personal knives.
Definately learning alot each time.
Hopefully someday I will have a fraction of the skills that some folks around here have!!
