501 article and knife

Great article on the 501 !!. I've got an older 501 with stag, pinned on with 2 pins,polished bolsters and back. Buck 501 U.S.A. in 3lines in script. Unknown sheath,mom carried it in her purse. Older blade grind.
Were the 83-84's marked in script? Or might this be something from the 78-80 era?
