I'm sitting here fiddling with my 501 while I read the forum and I noticed that both scales are loose and can be wiggled up and down. I'm wondering if this is normal. I haven't had the knife long so I doubt it's a wear and tear issue. Is this something that I can fix myself perhaps by peening the rivets gently? I'd hate to have to send it back.

Thanks

Deere, Welcome. I would not peen the head of the rivets as its a bit risky. Instead, get a tube of the runny type Super Glue with the fine applicator tip and glue it with the scale in the correct position. DM

That is not normal. Peining the pins will do nothing to help...they are peined from the inside. I have a 500 Duke that Both scales were loose on...I wicked some low viscosity CA (superglue) under the scales, and around the pins, and it's fine now. If you choose that route you will want to have some acetone on hand to clean up the glue that gets where you don't want it.
Better yet, Buck will gladly make it right for you as was rightly suggested.

Had the same exact issue and the super glue didn't work for me. The glue I was using was a bit thicker though. I'd just send it in to Buck and let them take care of it. I did, and mine came back nice and tight.
