Probably one of the most underrated knives (by those who don't know). When I got mine, I put my small sebenza away, got an edge 2000 remake and carry it everyday. I'm not like a lot of guys that carry it the pants pocket. I just made a form fitted horizontal sheath/pouch for it that slides on my belt. I even wear it up front for all to see. The real trick is that the sheath is the same color as the belt, hence very few people know I've even got a knife.

Got a 501MS? Is it your daily carry? Sheath or pocket?--sound off

I don`t have the 501, but I do carry the 532 (in BG-42) daily. I`m so impressed with this knife, performance & styling-wise. Right now I carry it on my belt, but I want a nice thin slip sheath to carry it in my pocket.

The 532 is a great, great knife.

I finally got my hands on one and put my 532 in the display case. I carry my 501 in a leather slip case that came with an Al Mar bone handle folder my wife bought me in '85. Perfect size and thin material. Keeps it from getting bunged up in the pocket. As far as how sharp it is, well my thumb is almost healed after slicing it to the bone from just cutting a string on a jar of salsa. Never had any knife, out of the box that could do anything like that.

I have a 501 (Squire) MS and love it. The sheath that came with it was outstanding. A very soft leather sheath that is comfortable to slide into the poket or the belt. I got one of these knives when they first came out. For a small knife it sure does cut well.

Didn't they all come with sheaths?

501MS here, and pocket carry.

Bought a 2nd one just cuz I loved it so much ... sharp as all get out and has a nice blade edge length to overall size proportion ... it puts on almost as much edge as the 532 with a lot less size and weight.

Just plain functional and damned pleasing to hold and look at. I'll grant that the 532 is a work of art, but the 501 just works (for me at least).

The William Henry T10 Clip Case fits the 501 pretty well and is a good option for clipping the knife to the pocket if you like to carry it that way.

Ok, I have a 501 but how do I know if it is a Master Series?
Mine has the Buck name is some kind of script and 501 just under the name and then U.S.A.
The bolsters look like stainless or nickle and the slabs look like maroon micarta with 2 small pins and 1 larger pin. I have carried this since my wife bought it approx. 30 years ago. I made a very thin green (its what I had)suade leather pouch to carry it in and carried it in my pocket.
I have got 1 blue and 1 walnut 532 and think I will be carrying one of these for a very long time too....scary sharp and BG42 too.

Ron,
The Master Series knives were introduced by Buck in 1998. They featured green dymondwood handles/inlays and BG-42 steel. They also came with an identifying medallion.
The models offered in the series were as follows: 110, 119, 501, 532 and 192. The run was for only the one year. However, some leftover knives without the checkering have been on the market for the last several months. These are identical except they have no medallion and no checkering. I have only seen the 110, 119 and 192 offered in this style. I suppose Buck did not have excess materials for the 501 and 532.

Larry;

Thanks for the information I appreciate your response!
