501 Pawn shop find

That’s one well-worn knife. I have three, one of which is wobbly, and I was going to give away to a guy on the forums for his kid, but I lost in my move. I really like these knives with the micarta scales. I think they’re one of the “unsung heroes” of buck lockbacks. A new blade and lock and you’ll be good to go with a pocketable buck knife that will last you a lifetime. Great score.

I would definitely send it in for a new blade. Buck will include the SPA treatment when replacing the blade for $10. I bought a 501 and 503 in similar condition about this time last year. I sent them to Buck and about 10 weeks later had two almost new knives. Photos are in this thread.

do any of you know if during the spa treatment, they can buff the hair Older micarta scales to clean up the look? Does polishing the bolsters round them in the process? Anything specific I should ask them with a note when i send the knife in?

I don't know about the micarta. You can specify how polished you want the bolsters. If you just want the surface scratches removed, state that on your order form. If you want all scratches removed, state that. If you want them to polish the bolsters as much as possible without rounding them, just state that and they should be able to abide by your request.

Thank you for the info!!
