The 501 is undoubtedly my favorite Buck knife, which makes it all the more of a bummer that it's tough to get it in steel other than the standard 420HC. The minimum price of $105 for the S30V in the custom shop is a tough pill to swallow when I'm looking at the base model with Pro discount coming in significantly lower.

I know DLT did a run of dealer exclusives in S35VN some time back, and SK did the Goodfella in 154 - hoping for another run of something similar.

Also with the 110/112 now available standard in S30V and Magnacut coming onto to the scene, maybe Buck will show some love to the standard 501 options?

Anybody out there with any special insight into upcoming options for different steels?

I think we are long overdue for a 501 Squire Buck of the Month. Magnacut seeing more time now would be perfect. I passed on both of these because of cost. 2023 pricing has me worried already.

2019 January | 501 Squire | S35VN, stag handle with nickel silver bolsters | 150 available | $160

2020 December | 501 Squire | CPM 154, burgundy burlap Micarta scales | 225 available | $140

Buck did a Legacy version in 2022. Barehead burlap micarta and S35vn. Probably some still available at vendors, but the price is triple what the SK Blades and DLT SFO's were.

Yea, I actually had the awesome luck of getting a "blemish" version of that one from MidwayUSA for $100. Not a chance in the world I was dropping $250+ for it. The fact that it's still available at vendors all over speaks to the fact that it wasn't priced appropriately.

As Buckshack mentioned above, it seemed like the pricing for 2022 knives went a little haywire and continued into 2023. Guess inflation takes a toll on everyone, but it's almost to the point where you could go get a true custom rehandle from a quality maker for the price of a BOTM or Limited.

I have a couple with the script “buck” marking. I think they’re the 440c ones. They’re great small and unobtrusive lockback knives.

The standard 501 originally came in 440c then later 425m. Both good steels for holding an edge.
Pick up one before the mid 90's and you can have a stainless bolster to boot.
I'd be interested to know the years that 425m was used for the 501. I have a 1986 date stamped. Thanks
