501's, old and new

I originally took this pic for a thread in Traditional, but I thought you Buck folks would like it, also.

Here is
a 501 from late 70's in 440C
a 501 from 2014 in S30V.

The top 501 looks to have been sharpened down as my new ones don't look like that. Rounded. They have a more pointed, tapered point. DM

I own one Buck 501, it's an Esquire model with "Olde English" style tang stamp and Micarta covers. OH
 
Sweet 501s guys! Jessero I could be wrong but that looks like D cherrywood, although with my aging eyes it could be the rosewood.
 
Looks like you got an extra nice one from the Custom Shop. I really like the knot and the S30V!!

Hi David. The blade was definitely modified, but not by me. It was a foundling I picked up from the ground when hiking a few years ago. The folks here on the Buck Forum dated it for me.

What kind of wood is that on the 2014 one?

Cherry. It's one of the basic cover materials available on the custom shop site. I was very impressed with how well it came out.
