Hi folks,

I just received an early 503 from the bay. Micarta with script blade. Anyway, it’s a good looking little knife and is basically in mint condition. The problem is that the blade is rubbing the liner. Is this something that is fairly easy to fix by Buck? I’m thinking of sending it in for repair. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I don't know, but sending it in will answer your question. Buck is good about things like this. They may choose to replace it so keep that in mind. I believe yours has 440C steel which I like. A replacement will have 420HC, while good, I like 440C better. You have to decide if you can live with the blade rub.

As well as 440c, you said it has a Micarta handle and script lettering. That is a collector piece. Personally I would get on the phone with someone and get clarifications before I filled out the form and sent it in.

Also even if you just send it in, make sure and note “do not replace” on your sheet. I’ve done that before and they will not replace, just repair if possible and/or return.
