503 Prince in a 501 case?

So I like to wear my knife in a sheath, not a pocket, and I wanna get the 503, but was wondering, does anyone know if the 503 would fit in a 501 case ok, without falling out? And, Would it be too hard to get it out of the case? What I mean is, would the top of the knife stick up tall enough in the sheath when I open it to grab it?

Thanks in advance!

Hey, I just checked that out for ya, and yes, it's very doable. Those are two of my favorites, and I have them handy.

The 503 does stick up a half inch or so, enough to easily grab from the sheath. There's also a half inch of free space on top for it to bounce a little, but it doesn't seem possible for it to fall out. You could always stuff a little bit of cotton or flannel in the bottom if you wanted it to ride a little higher.

Hey thank you so much for checking for me, I really appreciate it!! Ya the 500 line is literally my favorite Buck line, so, I'm excited to get the 503, and so happy that the 501 case will work for it!

Ok I'll be the contrarian one here. I wouldn't do it. My 503 fits my 501 sheath far to loose for me to be comfortable carrying it that way, I was able to pull it out of the sheath while the sheath was snapped. It didn't come out easy but it came out. Now I admit that I'm rough on my knife sheath at times. I'm not say you shouldn't, carry it that way. But I won't. I'm afraid I would loose the knife.

As a big fan of the 501. I can see wanting the 503 for a smaller pocket carry, but if you going to have a 501 sheath why short change yourself with a 503, put the 501 in it.

Hey thanks for your input guys, ya I have been debating getting the 501 or 503, cause I love them both. The reason I am thinking of getting the 503 over the 501 is because I already have the 500 Duke, so I was looking for a knife that is a bit smaller that I could carry on days I didn't wanna deal with the big 500 Duke lol! It's really hard to tell size comparison online, and it seems like the 501 is somewhat smaller than the 500, but maybe not enough? SO without trying it out in front of me I don't actually know. So looking at the 503, I know without a doubt that it is quite a bit smaller than the 500 Duke.

I went thru the same indecision between the 500 an 501. I bought a 501 an did not look back
I have not carried the 500 since. The 501 is small enough to tote around, but big enough to get 98% of your nees done.

Thanks for your input guys, ya the 501 does look quite a bit leaner and I know many people find that it's their default knife to carry, I'm still trying to decide, but I appreciate the feedback from 501 users!

Maybe this will help. 500, 501 and 503.

agree & check your PM :-)

B Brigmophyson , sir your set on carrying the 503 in a sheath. If you have the 501 sheath just pad it with some thin leather or piece of cardboard, ect. to get the knife fitting it the way you want. Second option is to have someone make you a sheath to fit it. Makael can do it.

A 503 was my first and only Buck for most of the 80's and in fact my only knife I carried. The wife snapped the blade off opening a can of peas lol! I had a early one with Old English script.. I wish I had saved the handle..

I don't have a 503, but the 501 is one of my absolute favorites. The size is great for most daily uses. I carry one of mine a lot more consistently than anything else. I don't usually carry one by itself, but I could without worry. If the 500 is just a little too big, I'd say saddle up with a 501 :thumbsup::thumbsup:
