Have an opportunity to buy this 506 astronaut knife, I cannot find info regarding the logo on the scales. Can anyone tell me if it was offered by Buck officially? Is there a certain # made or a value of what they’ve gone for? Only Picture I currently have of the knife.

I don't have any information on the 506 astronaut knife, but found a well used one in a 2008 forum thread. The OP stated his dad was a NASA supplier for 30+ years. So maybe a limited run for NASA?

Ahh yes. That was the one article I found!!! But only one at that. Thank you for the info.

Yes, it is a legit Buck knife, I have a couple of them. Yes, it is an Astronaut. I originally thought looked more like a susquatch. It is an Apollo Space Suit. Hamilton Standard (became Hamilton Substrand) was involved with the suits and portable life support systems. The knife is c.1988. It took me awhile to figure that one out. I came across documentation in one of the old newsletters with a list of 505/506 limited editions, by Larry Oden, June 2012. (edited) The handles are white linen micarta. The resins have yellowed some with age.

Sorry, they show up so infrequently it is hard to establish value.
I've had mine quite a few years and did not pay much so not much help there.

Before I found out what it really was, my thinking was a Sasquatch..:)
You did make me curious enough to find an Apollo Astronaut pic just for fun.
This was the closest matching pose I could find.

Thanks Desotosky, if I turn my head and squint my eyes I can almost see it. :) Different time and different tecnology, Now they can print anything on a knife.

What is the picture on the box? I just watched a video of a Carothers delta 3v knife being pounded through a chain with no damage to the blade. They were doing tests before that with hammer a nail. Seemed pretty tough. Does that image imply that a Buck can also be hammered through a nail without chipping the edge? Just curious, I haven’t found the need or the courage to do such a thing.

I moved this question to a new thread....

Them Sasquatch's get around don’t they? 😆

That was my first thought as I glanced at it before I finally looked closer then realized it was a astronaut 😆

Ya suppose they come and go to the moon and other celestial places by means of those UFOs 😂 im sure i saw that somewhere in a blurry picture taken by a shaky camera. 😝
