OK, here's my next little problem...

I've got an order for my first sword and I've been planning on doing a couple in damscus within the next few months or so (as time permits). I'm planning on having these HT'ed by a pro. My shop just isn't set up to HT a 28"-30" blade and I'm not sure I want to dare it yet. One blade is going to be 5160 (customer's) and then HC damascus for mine. I'm planning on one of mine to be a new table sign for shows...you'll see. Can anyone suggest a good HT'er for HC sword blades?

I know this PA Backwoods guy named J. He can do anything.

I've only had one commercially heat treated J. That was local and the only reason I did it was because it was my first Damasteel and I couldn't get data from them. He can only do up to 24" so he's out.

The last time I talked to Cecil at Kris Kutlery (it's been a while) he said he had a really good person that he sent them to. You might want to give him a call. He's a supper fellow and it's hard to get off the phone with him.

Other than that the only I can suggest is call Tinker or Clark and ask if they can suggest someone. You never know, they may offer to do it themselves. That would be an advertising coup.....Heat treated by Howard Clark!

Good luck my friend!

Kevin Cashen would be the man to ask, he knows the guys on Swordforum.

I couldn't find the site at first so I had to go to that :barf: Sword Forum place :barf: I feel like I've been accosted by a thousand teeny bopers wielding He-man and blade swords :footinmou

Here he is:

Well golly gee Terry....I do too and I'm gonna get one so I can kill Vampires in LA when I grow up :footinmou

I'd better shut up before Rocky's girlfriend takes offense again!

J. I've been having Justin Gingrich heat treat my 5160 blades for me. He does an excellent job. I don't know if he would be able to do a blade that large, but it's worth asking. He is a Blade Forum member.

Thank guys, I'll check out these leads they all sound good. If anyone has contact info for Jerry Rados and could pass it along, that would be great also. When I discussed this project with Paul Bos he suggested Jerry but, I lost the number.
Thanks again.

J he's one of our members.

I can do up to 27" only :(

Well, sounds like you've got some good leads, but Joe Walters of moonlit forge heat treated my big Bowie for me. He does great work with swords. (specializing in the Japanese style) Ya might want to try him.

Thanks again guys. I'm going to have to make a "sword" forge and a nice long quench tube one of these days. I told Tess just this spring..."nah, I won't need to HT anything larger than 15" for a long time yet"...
