How is 1/4" 5160 steel compared to 1/4" 1095 if both are heat treated correctly?

Thanks

it is tougher, and will patina better than 1095. It is also easier to heat treat.

It is what most car leaf springs are made of.

extremely tough steel. excellent stuff. Bill Siegle does it best, but he doesn't seem to be making anymore.

Thanks for the reply- I am stupid about steels...what makes it better?

It's not better because it
Patinas better then 1095
.

Or because it's
easier to heat treat
.

It's better because it's a higher alloyed steel,

...the additional alloys bring things to the table that the simple 10XX steels don't have.

And Yes, it is a spring steel (read tough and resilient).

I like the way you worded that Big Mike! Straight to the point.

I just purchased an Ontario RD4 5160 because of your post. :D You, sir, should feel honored! :D:D
