52100 hunting knife options

Try swamprat knives. They use sr101, basically 52100 with their in house heat treat.

I second swamprat knives, also you could always try and find a spyderco mule team in 52100. Won't break the bank (well......ebay) and has a variety of handle options.

Bark River used it for a while in several models. None recently. Before that Marbles used 52100 when Mike Stewart was there. I had one from the 99-2000 era that was 52100. You can tell the date by the spacer color pattern. ( available on different websites). The very first mule team knife was 52100 and they are available once in a while on the secondary market like the above. The only companies using it in new made knives is the Busse-kin "SR101" knives. Why they call it by another name is a mystery to me. It seems silly because when done properly 52100 is an excellent cutlery steel.

Industrially it's used for ball bearings, races, etc. Good stuff!

Thanks for the responses. Well...I couldn't help myself. I decided to purchase the Bark River knife. It is beautiful and I hope lasts for a lifetime.

I'm sure it will if you take care of it. Barkies are sweet knives.

Since you bring up "taking care of it," what does one have to do to maintain, and especially to properly store this knife, between deer hunting seasons?

Is is adequate to clean it, dry it, and then coat it in gun oil?

thanks,
Joe
