What I have here is a breakthrough for me as far as knife making goes. I have been learning off and on for the last 6+ years from Bill Burke and have drooled over his pronghorn knives every second I have known they exsisted. This is my first attempt at emulating his wonderful and rugged knives.

It s a 3.5" long 52100 blade with a 3.75" curley claro walnut and brass handle. The blade has been normalized 3 times, quenched 3 times and tempered 3 times for a tough little blade with a keen little edge And the handle contours the palm and fingers nicely. There is a hint of a temper line in the sunlight and the blade has been hand rubbed to 2000 grit and the buffed on a buffing wheel. And.the handle has been treated with tru-oil and buffed with 0000 steel woll to bring out the chatoyance in the walnut.

Please let me know what you guys think....in depth criticism and or praise is very much welcome.

Thanks, Andrew Finnie.

Andrew,
I think its a cool knife. Love the blade shape and the size.
Looks handy as all get out.

Just saw this.....I think you did a bang up job on it!!!!

Excellent size and blade shape for a multitude of tasks...fine looking knife.

It's beautiful. I personally prefer larger fixed blades but it is a gorgeous knife. The walnut turned out great. Awesome work!

Andrew, i just got back from two weeks in Finland and am catching up. I bought the first knife that Andrew had up for sale on BF and its edge went almost to the handle, which I prefer. I probably get that from my like of Finnish puukkos, and Finns will ask you why you have such a large ricasso? On larger knives I like a large ricasso that I can use to "Choke Up" on the blade for fine work, but on a small blade, four inches and under, I prefer the edge to go right to the handle. I understand this is pretty much a "Pronghorn" style blade, and it does look like you did a great job in the execution of the knife. John

Hey Andy, you know I like it. I saw it in the for sale thread and it is a great price for a nice field, hunter and using knife.

nice form/shape, and size. vicious criticism ? ok lol you asked for it :) it looks like it can easily be a 4 finger knife. the blade seems too small in relation to the handle. if it was an inch longer, or the same length and slightly wider, it would appear more balanced to the eye. or, keep the blade the same size and shrink the handle a bit would have the same effect. the guard seems a little chunky, a deeper curve would slim the points and make it look more attractive. just my two cents. but i would love it the way it is.

Thanks everyone! Its good to hear feedback of any sorts and I appreciate everyone's point of view regardless of what it is. I will take all the feedback and apply it to my knives to improve.

Thanks again!

And Gary. I actually kind of modeled this after my memory of your small white handled knife yo used last time we all ate together at Bill's. I saw it and was like wow! That would be one hell of a useful knife. And that's what my memory spit out.

Personally I feel the blade width is a bit too slender in comparison to the handle. I think if the sharpened portion of the blade was stretched out a bit in width, and the ricasso were shorter than the functionality and the cutting performance would improve. Plus, it would look nicer after many sharpenings as the width of the blade would keep the blade from looking to skinny over time.

The handle on the other hand seems very well thought out and is quite attractive.

Really????nothing to say at all?

Andy: I'm inclined to agree with some of the other fellas - I believe the handle over-powers the blade and the guard is a bit too chunky. A little too long a ricasso also......just my two cents worth. A little grinding here and there and the knife could be more visually balanced.

Thanks for the input TK! I can see the guard is a little chunky on the top and am thinking about taking off the top guard to a nice little upslope. But to my eye the blade and ricasso is o.k. looking at a lot of Bill's smaller pronghorns there is somewhat of a longer ricasso for choking up on the blade for finer work and that's what I was going for. And as far as the handle I don't quite understand about it being overpowering
I would love to hear more in depth as to why you came up with these conclusions so I can further my education of sorts.

Thanks

Andrew.
