Has anyone else had issues with the thumb stud on their 53X catching on their pocket and partially deploying the blade?

Happened to me earlier and startled me. It happened in a pair of trousers with a lightweight material. The top of the pocket was able to wedge in between the stud and handle. The flare on the end of the thumb stud kept it from slipping off.

I'm thinking about grinding the rear of the stud down a bit to prevent it from happening again. With the tip up positioning, a blade deployed in the pocket could do some damage to my leg. Or worse, to my pants!

I've had it happen on every unmodified axis lock I own, with thumb studs.
Smoothing the stud where it catches is how I correct it.

Had the same problem. Generally speaking the 531 thumb studs are one of the worst ones in BM knives. I replaced them with studs from Nakamura, they also give better traction.
I know, a bit old topic but have not seen it earlier ;)

Had that problem with my 531. Those thumb studs would snag on the edge of the pocket. They were the only ones that did snag.

My 484-1 "waves" better than any actual Wave I've ever tried.

I actually like it, and it's easy to avoid by simply twisting the knife a bit as I pull it out of my pocket.

Yep, only thumbstuds I've ever had do that. Ended up selling the knife for that and other reasons.

Same issue, here.

I've considered removing them entirely. They don't work for me at all.

I switched to the deep carry clip and haven't had an issue since. Shouldn't make any difference, in theory, but seems to have solved the issue.

I have had it happen a few times as well as having my jeans' pocket worn out by the 530/531 thumbstud. I found the deep carry clip made both of these situations worse.
Still love the 530/531 anyway.

Funny thing is I was handling a 531 the other day at Cabela's and though "Wow, BM, I'm really unimpressed with these thumbstuds." They were high and tiny and sharp edged and I though they would destroy my pocket. Really put me off the knife, which I otherwise liked. Can one order a different set of studs from BM?

I got 484 studs from local distributor, problem solved. Generally speaking they are great comparing the original ones.
All that is required is to shorten the thread a bit (531 blade is a little thinner).
