I have a Buck 532+ (1991) Buck knife that I'm selling. In my research I've seen them referred to as "Bucklock" and "Bucklocker. On the Buck web site and in most pictures I've found with original packaging they are called "Bucklocks" but I also found a picture of a 1991 532 like mine and on the box it clearly says "Bucklocker". Did they originally call them "Bucklocker" and then change the name to "Bucklock"? I am sure you're wondering why this matters to me and the answer is because some guy keeps emailing me insisting the correct name is "Bucklock" as if I am committing some sin for referring to it as a "Bucklocker" and I am obstinate enough to want to prove him wrong. While I'm on the subject, does anybody know what wood the scales were made of on the 1991 original issue of this knife or was there more than one?

Thanks

I have quite a few of the Bucklocks and I can't find any box with Bucklocker on it. I just went through every catalog from the time they were introduced in '91 until they disappeared from the catalogs and never found that name either. There was one called the "Fishlocker".

The catalog doesn't say what the wood is.

OOPS, correction! I just found this one. It's a 1991 also so this should win your argument for you.

Russell,
If you are talking about the 532 Bucklocks, the handle material is a laminated Birchwood. That stuff on very durable and can be made in many colors. We have been using it for quite a few years with great results.
Take care,

Hay Dobgaw,

Thanks for asking your question. I learn something new here every week. Thanks Dave for finding the answer to the question.

We have all called them a 'Bucklock' only for so long that I guess it stuck . I really did not know there were two names for the same lock . DM

Out of curiosity, seeing them stamped PAT. PEND. -- what was the patent on them?

Thanks for your quick answer and going to the trouble to track this down. Can't wait to send that picture to a certain person.

Steve

The mid-back lock was the patent Buck applied for . The process can take a year or more so those first year models were stamped in that manner . Later, when the patent was approved the stamped changed to read 'patented' . So, this dates the early and late models . DM
