opinions welcome on your thoughts between the two,532 versus 500,also opinion on steel type for these, thanks.

I do not own a 532. I do have the 531 which is around 3 1/2", thin and a dressy knife. I do like the mid-lock. But those models have no belly and remind me of a broad head on a hunting arrow. Haa, I know guys like them. A mystery.? Whereas the Duke has enough belly to give eye appeal and only being 3" and thin. Thus, I would buy and carry the 500. One may with seaching find a 532 with S30V steel. As Buck did that model with up grade steel. DM

A Bucklock is on my list of knives to get. Unlike DM, I prefer the blade shape on the Bucklock. Indeed, I chose an older Duke because it had less belly. Between 420HC and S30V I definitely prefer S30V for its edge holding ability.

I love em both, but for a user, I'll take the 500. I like the thicker frame and blade shape better.

The 5XX line overall is my favorite by far.

I think of the 532 as a sneaky knife... meaning it reminds me of something that would be used to puncture tires. One of my favorites but I never seem to slip one in my pocket for carry. Guess I don't slash many tires anymore ;)

The 500 is is a great knife to carry in the pocket or in a horizontal sheath on the belt on the weekends for the chores that pop up around the house and in the yard.

Now the 501... which you didn't ask about.... is the perfect gentlemen's carry knife to keep in pocket for anything from cutting up and apple to opening boxes.

I prefer the 500 and 501s with the original maroon micarta... but for whatever reason I can never get a great edge on the 440c steel.
