Hello all!

I'm not new to the forum, but I'm new to this subforum. Over the past 2-3 months, my appreciation for traditional knives has gone through the roof. I've noticed several threads dedicated to popular patterns, but I didn't see one for the 55. I figured I would start one, since it seems like I'm gather a nice little stash of 55's.

If someone from GEC or any of our resident SFO'ers are reading this...we need more of these. No liner lock, please [emoji38]

Good idea and rest assured I'm a fan. I find the Houndstooth to be much better in the hand than say the Swayback, and the 55 gives you a decent sized blade relative to the frame. A re-run would be most welcome, especially in Barehead form. I was never able to get a Northwoods version, yours looks very good indeed, but I'm on constant watch. Remember too that the 57 Half Whitt is the same frame but reversed.

Here's my only picture for now.

Thanks, Will

There's this thread on the 55.....

And there's this one too..... http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1208067-Starvin-for-Serpentines-and-Dog-Leg-Dreamin

Don't forget the #56.... it's the Jack version with the same frame too!

I've acquired a few more since this picture....... what a great frame!

Don't forget the Weaver jack. The 2 blade is a bit more comfortable in hand, but the 3 blade is uniquely interesting.

If you like the #57, you may want to check out the Northwoods Willamette Whittler. It uses the #38 frame, which is just a little more elongated. Here it is with a #57 and a #15.

Oops! I guess my search skills are weak [emoji1]. Nice pics and lots of info, thanks!

Great to see your first thread Clint and here are my slim meager pickings of the dogleg.

~Welcome to the traditional threads as well bud~

I have managed to procure one 55. Great little knife in hand. Looking for more.

This really is a great pattern. I wish GEC would revisit it. Good luck finding a new 55 without the liner lock, unless you like stag. The liner lock on these seems a bit redundant to me, especially considering the half stop combined with the heavy pull. At any rate, the lock isn't a deal breaker for me.

I took a few pics for a trade that didn't go through. Looking at the pics, I'm kind of glad it didn't!

Yes that's some nice smooth stag that suits the shield on the Northwoods very well indeed. Plenty of us would trade for that:D:thumbup:

Erik, between yours and Robb's of the same variety, I'm kicking myself for not getting one of these with a wharnecliff blade. Especially in that color bone. Gonna have to keep my eye out for one on the secondary market.

Thanks Bob! I got this because I loved my Case Swayback Jack and wanted to try something a touch bigger. I also wanted to GEC's harder he treat.

When I got it, I fell in love with the curves and the shape. I like the Farmer Jack to for the same reason. Here's a different angle that shows off the curves:

Thanks for the additional shot Robb. The Doglegs are among my favorites. I just have none right now. :o

I personally think that the autumn gold wharncliffe non locking version is the most desireable #55 that was made. Really hard to find! I actually came across the one I have by accident.... a few people posted pictures of the Oregon Knife Collectors show last year. I zoomed in on some of the pictures to look at what was in some display cases and spied one.... I guess it was fate that the gentleman still had it and was willing to sell it for a reasonable amount.

Bob, if you see one of these, don't hesitate. It's a winner.

Not such a great picture, but there's really never enough.

Great pictures here everyone! This is one of my favorite frames.

Great knives, Alchemy. Did I sell you that green Burnside? Hot dang its gorgeous. I had one like that, but I couldn't find it in my heart to love the spear blade. Now if they do another fun with a wharncliff (already begged Derrick for this), I'm all over it!

I need one of the wharnie 55s, red jigged or bocote. Dang that's nice.
