550 & 551 Comparison Photos

There was recently sort of a side discussion in another thread about the 550 and 551. I had both out today, so i thought I'd throw a side by side pic of them on.

Mine were acquired at different times, although both came in 510 sheaths. I'm not sure if this was the sheath they were supplied with or not.

I have two 551- .... I think it's the smaller one... This is my extra one... This one need a new home soon... I don't have the 550 one... ITE ...

Tvranesic, do they have the save year mark??? Again nice knives... :thumbup:

Yes, both are marked as yours is...1992 knives.

I wonder how long these models were in production and what years they were offered?

The 550, the King Charles, was made between 1991 and 1996, 1700 were made.
The 551, the King Charles II, was made in the same time, 2600 were made.

No, ITE, I don't think that they were made for another market.
Then it would be a special edition. But it is listed in the BCCI model history.
So it seems that these knives were a regular production.

yes Haebbie is correct in that they were made also for the usa market
however it is my understanding from conversations in post falls ..
they were more poplar across the pond then here at the time
and i believe they were ordered by sellers there more then here
