I'm looking to buy some 550 chord. This is my first time, so how can I ensure its real and not a fake? I'm looking to get approx. 100ft of green and orange. Thanks guys!

County Comm (countycomm.com) is where I get all of mine. The key is 7 internal strands that aren't fuzzy, but look like twisted spool nylon.

This is were I got mine. Price starts at $1.23 for a 50' hank...

Incredibly cheap, but it doesn't look like knockoff stuff...It has seven woven strands.

Not sure how to go about testing it's true breaking strengh though lol. Maybe I'll try to rig something up to test one of the 50# strands...

Joben .... Actually, 1 of the twisted pairs (7 twisted pairs are on the inside) is rated at 35# giving the inside strands a total of 245#. The sheath is rated at 305#, thus 550# cord.

Interesting...

Upon investigation: The stuff on Amazon i linked two has 7 twisted pairs, all of which appear to be identical.

That is the only "550 cord" I have as of yet so i figured the sheath was 200# and each stand was 50# to make up 550. (50x7=350)

Buy an old parachute and harvest all the cord. It will be genuine parachute cord ;)

or you can some at KSF along with your new RC blade!!!

Jantz knife makers supply carries it for $10.00 per 100'. They have a HUGE assortment of colors too.

Check to see if you have any local camping/army surplus stores too. No waiting/paying for shipping :D

I've had great luck with Supply Captain & Knives Ship Free, both of which have already been mentioned.

I've gotten a lot of my ends, safety connects and such from Lighthound.
