Hey,

I am going to get my eagle scout soon (next few months i hope) and figured i would buy myself a benchmade as a reward. i am in around a 100 dollar budget. I was looking at the 530 by pardue or the griptilian(both have axis). both look like good knives but i like the looks of 530 more. It is a very unique slim design. My edc now is a flash II by sog. I like the assisted opening.

I like the axis but is it the best thing to do over a nicer rolling lock at same price?

what do you think.

It depends on which handle and blade-style that YOU like the best. For ME, it's the Griptilian, hands-down. It looks like it would be too easy for the hand to slip-down on the blade of the 530 with a hard stab, where the Griptilian feels very secure to me.

The 530 has a little more handle flex. The 550 sheepsfoot is better suited for regular EDC tasks, but they're both good. I'd prefer them over the taiwanese rolling lock knives

Congratulations on your eagle scout, I received mine about 3 years ago so I know from experience that it is a big accomplishment. If it werent for scouting I have no doubt that I wouldnt be on this forum right now, and I wouldnt love to camp and hunt and fish like I do.

I have the 550, and it is a great knife. It is very solid and fits my hand well. I have never handled the 530, but to me it does not look as strong as the 550. It really depends on what you plan to use it on, and what you like best. They are both good knives and i dont think you could go wrong with either one.

550, I think it just has a better blade shape for almost everything. Go OD with the handles like I did and get away from the plain black FRN like everyone else.
