Thank you Larry Oden

I loved the original resin model so this version had big shoes to fill.

It is a one-hander thanks to the thumb hole. And that thumb hole allows the cool frame-lock hard plastic sheath for the blade to lock the spare blade into itself very securely and that is brilliant! This version is heavier, is a fist load, you could pound a bit with it in a pinch although I wouldn't, and the anatomical choil is very well done protecting your digits from sliding out onto the cutting edge of the blade during push cuts. The self close is good. The scales are removable. I like the gimping on the back of the blade for fine control fore and aft. Ultra sharp out of the box and the handle has tons of grip.

The pivot is pressed so it is not user serviceable IMHO.

To remove blade: half close, press lock bar down all of the way (I am holding knife in my left hand) and pull blade away from knife and away from left hand (I grip blade at thumb hole with right thumb and index finger) with no effort.

To install blade: send to Buck factory. No, only kidding. Keeping all flesh out of harm's way depress lock bar all of the way and with no effort put blade cutout over pivot pin.

Thank you for looking.

The hard plastic holder/sheath for the spare blades is too cool for school. It is a frame lock so it securely holds the blades by their thumb hole until the user is ready to deploy them. WOW!

Steve, good pictures and a great write up on

the new 550 Setector... Thanks ... :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Now I need one for sure... ITE

:)

This baby was ordered way back when I can't even remember how long ago. I was looking forward to receiving it and now that it has arrived I couldn't be more tickled. What a great folder, a bargain @ eighty smackers, and the spare blade holders are sensational works of mechanical engineering: Hip, hip hooray Buck! WTG. Everybody should own one of these.

Make one of the next spare blades a cap lifter pretty please and etch Plumber Dave's smiling face onto it if you would! :) Miss you California Dave.

Hi,
why BUCK discontinued this model?
Such a great sturdy knife..

Buck never really officially says why they discontinue models. we can only assume they don't sell well........ or cost too much labor time, line time and materials, etc. for the margins they bring in...things of this nature.

oh and before i forget my manners........welcome to the forum......

I have question about the pivot of 550 selector 2.0
The pivot of this knife is pressed rather than usual screws
Do you count this as a weakness? How strong are pressed pivots vs screws?
The pivot is about 5~6 mm thick so at least i consider this pivot "Heavy duty" pivot..
Thank you for your time and your answers

no. pins are very strong. the only downside side is you cant as easily adjust the pivot tightness. as far as failure is concerned, dont worry.
