A friend out west sent some interesting folders out for me to have a looksee,
I had asked if he had the 551 and he did, so he sent it out, along with his
Spyderco Ti Military, as it could use a sharpening.
the lockup on the 551 is rock solid, gives you the feeling of a fixed blade in confidence
pretty tuff knife, not what I'd call a great slicer due to the thicker edge, but she does
cut and could easily pry if called upon, though don't do so on my say so
I did find opening the knife a bit stiff, good detent on the blade, which can be a good thing too.
My only nit pic, besides the thick blade, would be the small notch before the cutting edge starts,
even as small as it is, when I was slicing up some cardboard, it would catch on that little bit,
would be handier if it were edge all the way up, or possibly make the cutout at a slight angle
so material could ride up and out of the area, but, I'm fairly well known regarding that nit pic
and a lot of folks want it there, for their own reasons.
The Military was pretty cool too, much thinner edge, longer handle, albeit a little smooth,
some texturing of the Ti would go a long ways on this I think.
