Hi guys.

I recently sharpened my 556 on a lansky and as I used the 120grit coarse stone, starting at the tip and applying pressure the tip broke/chipped off. Will Benchmade's warranty cover this? The dealer said he cannot believe it chipped while using the lansky, but I think the knife could be a bad one. First time its happened, but know it does.

Any recommendations? The dealer will either resharpen the edge or send it back to benchmade.

What do you think?

Thanks.

Well, if you have a bench grinder, you could reshape it yourself. Yesterday I reground a Delica 3 with a broken tip, and it turned out rather nice. First time I had tried such a thing. Otherwise, I would just send it back to Benchmade and see what happens. JMO.

Most likely damaged by factory during grinding .It's happened to me a few times. If it's only a small amount just grind it out and save the trouble of sendingit back.

Benchmade's warranty will cover the manufacturing defect so you can choose to grind it out or return the knife.

Benchmade has a great warranty program. Send it in and they'll either grind a new tip or put on a new blade.

reminds me when i broke off the point of my homemade dagger.
it was about one inch long out of 6 inches of blade.

I could do nothing for half a day.
