I just picked up a 557 at my local shop today. They had them for $69.99 so I couldn't pass one up. I had a hard time deciding which style blade to get but in the end went with the tanto because 1 I've got a 555 old style with the oval hole and 440C blade already and 2 I have a 556 custom mini Grip on order that should get here soon. My question is how do you guys like your 557's and if you have any pics those are also welcome. Thanks guys

I have a couple and I like them a lot. Very smooth operation. I snagged mine when I saw them on sale a while back from an online retailer. The handle is a tad shorter than what I'm used to but still comfortable. I think partially because of that, they carry very well in my front left pocket.
Being left handed, it's nice to find folders that are totally ambi.
What color grips are they? I have a tan and an almost OD green.
Sorry, no pics.

I just got the black grips. I don't think they had any tanto blades in any other color but black. They had 556's in yellow, pink, and blue. They had 555's in black and the OD green. I would have gotten the 555 in green I think but they only had them with the black blades and I just really didn't want that coating on the blade. Also like I said before I already have a 555.
I really enjoy knives of this size and weight. The knives I carry the most are a Delica 4, some variation of a mini Grip, 707, or a UKPK. I just picked up a mini BoneCollector about 2 weeks ago and have really enjoyed carring it as well. It's a little heavier than the others I usually carry but I still find it very comfortable. I like the blade shape on it and it really sharpened up to a good edge on my diamond stones.

I have a black handle black blade 557 that I picked up here on the forums for a pretty screamin deal a few months back. I enjoy it very much. Action is smooth and fast like most other axis locks. I find that secondary tip from the tanto grind to be quite useful. Really bites into packages or whatever other small things im trying to open. I do find however that its slightly more difficult to get a razor edge on this knife using a sharpmaker. I can get it plenty sharp, but getting that super keen edge takes more time than it seems like it should. I use the knife fairly often, and the coating basically looks brand new. I find it to be an almost ideal daily carry.

rinoceros830, I haven't sharpened mine yet so I can't comment on its difficulty to get sharp. Mine came with an ok edge, it would shave but not very good. This is the first bad edge I've gotten on a BM in some time. I'll sharpen it soon though and report back. Also agree with you on the tanto blade being great at opening packages and cardboard cutting. I don't think this blade shape is the best for EDC but its very manageable. i really don't like the blade coating so I avoid it when ever possible.

I have a D2 Cabelas Mini-Grip. It's a great knife. Just a bit small for my hand. I get a much more secure grip on a Delica.

Other than the size though, I can't fault the Mini-Grip. It's a very well-made knife.

Well after breaking out the diamond stones today I didn't have any trouble what so ever getting this knife sharp. No extra time or care was involved. Knife is now about as sharp as I can get one, sharper than it was when I picked it up though.

Hmm, I dont have the diamond rods for the SM. Just the stock set. Gotta be something Im doing then. I didnt think 154CM was that hard of a steel, but I have an easier time sharpening my para-military.

Clean the rods. Then take a sharpie and mark the edge to see where you are hitting the edge.

I bought a LE M2 Mini-Ritter Grip years ago and caught the bug. Here's picture of a couple my LE's in M4 #087's.
I Absolutely love Griptilians.
For me the addition of the Ritter blade shape and the Limited edition super steels is worth the extra money.
It turns an already great knife into a dream knife.

I don't have a Ritter yet. Guess I'll have to pick one up soon. I know everyone who has one likes it. I have a custom 556 on order right now and then after I get that one I may pick up either a Ritter or another custom order. I've got S30V coming on the first custom 556 and I think I really want to get another one with N680. I fish a lot and just wanted to say I had a "fishing" knife. I have a Spyderco Ladybug Salt and its really cool and all but I just like the ability to customize a knife just like I want it. Might get something put on the blade fishing related, who knows??? Though I only ever fish fresh water and I've never had any problems with the regular steel in my knives.

So many knives so little money ;)
