Not a competition.
Just a comparison.

They are similar in size.
My Open Season 557 micarta and 110 nickel and g10 custom;

The 557 weighs 6.4 oz., and the 110 at 7.5 oz.
I really like the thumb stud on the 557. It makes it very easy to open one handed.
They are both very stout and instill confidence.
But the 557 is fatter.
I really like it.
I had a 557 w/ redwood and 420hc, and sent it back. This one I'll keep.
When you hold the 557, it better fills your hand. You almost have to hold your hand tighter to grip the thinner 110. But you obviously have a fatter knife to carry.

OK, so I just got the 557 and I'm pretty pleased with it. I couldn't help but compare it to my favorite 110.

I'm not familiar with the 557.
I'm sure it is a fine knife. (it is a Buck, after all) but I think I'll stick with the 110.
After near 50 years of having one on my belt, I am a wee bit settled in my habit of having a 110 on me every day.

Being retired now, I still don't need one hand opening. (I think there are studs and bars that can be bolted on the 110's blade, if I ever do need one hand opening.)

great knife.

that one handed opening can come in handy when the other hand is busy already. nothing to frown at. even useful sometimes.

The thumb stud on the 557 is on top of the blade and works much nicer than the studs on the side of the blade for one hand opening.
And it seems to be a nice place to put your thumb on top of the blade during use.
I'm not sure about everyday carry.
But I think I prefer it as a hunter.
