Sent Dave Stagg a 1956 Colt Government frame, a 60's era Goverment slide and a box of parts. Told him to just make me a simple, classic, "Retro" style carry pistol. Heres what he came up with-

I know its not a knife, I also know this crowd appreciates good quality work of all sorts.

It's always nice to tell someone that they 'suck', in a good way of course...

Based on that beautiful picture of your pistol, I'd have to say that yes, 'You sir, definitely suck!' :D

Nicely done buddy, outstanding job! Lucky, lucky you! That is, the cleanest 1911 I've seen in the last 3 years!

Gonna have to agree with Mel, nicely done. I like the fact its all pre 70 series, I've wanted to get ahold of 70 or earlier, but alas could never find the one I wanted for the money I had. Still though Ive got a couple nice 80 series that shoot well. Again, very nicely done piece.-- Charles

Very nice indeeed. I love 1911s, especially in such a classic rendition, without any unnecessary bells and whistles.

Did ya get a close look at those 'hi-vis' 3-dot sights, the flat mainspring housing, and the front strap checkering? Smooth Ivory grips too...gawd, I bet that 'lil sucker will sing like a siren in heat...lol :D

Ahhh, fast and furious 'porty pibes' just take my breath away! *sigh*

Good on ya RML, you and your 'smith kicked some serious ass!

that puppy has a soul! my favorite pistol. i know some guys like the glocks and other tactical tupperware, those things are like a maytag washingmachine/. yeah they work but there is no romance

Thanks for the compliments, ill pass them on to the 'smith. The sights are black on black, with a serrated rear blade and front sight face, at 75 LPI. The mainspring housing is "slightly" arched. He took an arched mainspring housing, and took most of the arch out then checkered it at 20 LPI.

One neat thing you cant see is that the slide stop has had the top 2 serrations removed, so there is a slight ledge to it.

Havent shot it enough to get a full report yet, but will post results when i do. It should shoot great with the KART NM barrel and good frame/slide fit.

Thanks again, matt

Really nice Matt..., a classic...

That's one hell of a knock-out. . .or should I say "knock-down !" :D

Now. . .what was the sticker price ? :)

the frame/lower cost me $300, the slide was $100. I bartered the work and rest of the parts for work :D Im guessing the total for barrel (suplied and fit), checkering, metal work, bluing etc... would run about $1000 or so.
