560 scale issue?

Anyone else know of an issue with early numbered 560's where the G10 scale doesn't quite match up with the liner at the choil? The scale overhangs with the liner recessed underneath. Also, where the handle comes to a point to start the choil, the liner and scale do not match up and the points are slightly off. And finally, the lanyard hole has been bored out too much on the G10 part at one end of the hole, exposing some liner beneath. Is this a known issue with early 560's? I can post pics if need be but does that ring a bell with anyone? If sent in for warranty service does anyone know if KAI will send it back with the tan 561 scale if requested?

Well I have never heard of it happening, that being said if you send it into kershaw they'll fix it for ya and maybe even give ya a 561 scale!

I'm pretty sure you can send it in and CS will take care of it. I doubt they would change the color the scale. You can ask though, they might sell it to you.

I'll probably send it in. Just curious if anyone else had heard of the issue before. Other than that though, this is a perfect knife!

Well the g10 not lining up is not a problem that's a design feature. The g10 lines up with the lockbar right? They cut some of the liner out to help get you thumb meat in there.

+1

There are a couple of spots where the liner and the G10 intentionally do not line up. One is across from the lock bar so you can have better access. The other is up where the blade stops hit the frame when open so you don't beat on the scale.

I don't know if it's intentional or not but it's certainly not there to gain better access to the lockbar. The G10 is not what is recessed but the liner underneath. It doesn't allow easier access but rather leaves a few millimeters of G10 exposed and hanging over. It would make sense as you're saying if they had trimmed the G10 back to where the liner is. Then the G10/liner side would be cut away to give easier access to the lockbar. It's also clearly not by design because the ridge that starts the choil doesn't line up between liner and G10. It's off by enough to clearly albeit slightly be machined to a different shape.

The overlapping g10 is intentional, it's the same way on an XM18. It gives you a little wider gap at the lockbar to make it easier to reach... ...you don't seem to agree that it makes it easier but that seems to be the intent.

Is this what you are talking about?

If so, it is intentional.

I also like to think the overlapping G10 protects against inadvertent lock opening.

Yes that is what I'm referring to on the choil. It looks odd to be intentional with the way the pointed ridges are misaligned between the liner and G10 but I guess it could be. I sent it in to be worked on anyway though since there's definite machining mistakes at the lanyard hole. I'll let everyone know what they say about sending it back with a tan scale instead.
