560-what a price !

Some unfortunate bidder did not do his homework very well, I have bought 2 560s of ebay in the last year both for under 40.00, and have watched dozens of 560s sell in that time for about an average price of 35.00.

sad....

I am no expert, but that particular 560 has a black blade finish, which I have not seen before. The ad claims it is a Titanium oxide finish, which is possible since the Ti finish can be just about any color you want. Anybody know anymore about it?

I bid on that knife and would have gone to about $80 but I have no knowledge of why it sold for such a price?

I remember seeing such a thing available for at least a few years, unless I am nuts. I think it was one of two options when the titanium models were available for the first round (I think they were discontinued then brought back again). I bought one of the later batches for around $50 give or take.

In fact...

The description of the ebay listing is, as is common, exagerated. Smoky Mountain had them, so it is hardly "one of a kind."

seems i recall joe H. of buck saying something about a oxid finisn on the balde which is not an anadised Ti finisn as that would be shiny like some of the belly button ring pearceings you see...
but there was 3 bidding it up!

I remember seeing black 560's in the US Cavalry catalog some years back and they listed for around $80. At the time that was out of reach for me, now I wish I had gotten one. IIRC, the ad copy called the finish "black titanium oxide".

this is already being resold again??? see: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63792&item=6528605323&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW not sure how/if this blade is any different than the black epoxy finished 560 that came out in the 90's.I asked the seller that and didn't get anything definitive.......? Interesting that, based on the auction image, that it's already being auctioned again.....Titanium oxide coating and black epoxy paint are definetly two different processes. I'm not aware of BUCK Ti coating the 560. After market process? I do note that the pins on this knife are silver in color not black like the original black painted version.

I thought this was the same knife getting relisted. For some reason. ??

My all black 560ti has stainless (silver appearing) pins. Has a 1992 year code.

Different seller; probably different knife; same picture & description as other one.

Thanks, ,,, knew it was same photo and descriiption. Didn't pay attention to seller.

Maybe I should list mine   It is signed by Chuck Buck! :D Nah....

When the 560 first came out, it was available in two finishes. The black one as seen there, and one with a Satin blade, and grey Ti handles. Not sure what the finish was on the handle. The second generation was the crystalline Ti finish IIRC.

Picture from some dealer in the Netherlands that actually has one for sale it looks like:

I did some checking and found that the 560BT shows up in the 93 and 94 catalogue touting a black Titanium Nitride coating. In the 95 catalogue it is listed as having a black powder coated finish.
We made about 9000 of them in 93 and 94. I will have to do some more research to determine if we really did do that many with the titanium nitride coating. Hopefully someone here remembers. I hope for the bidders sake that we only did a few samples and just did not change the description in the catalogue.
