Howdy yall,

First I'd like to thank all the folks who have answered all of my questions and contributed around here. I obsessively research and I really enjoy just how much useful information is in the particular subforum! Today I got my first ZT in the mail- the 560CBCF, and I already love it. I thought as my way of giving some information back to the community I'd do an occasional update of some of the work I've put this think through and how its performing. I know a lot of folks are holding on to these more for collection sake, so I'll try to offer some information on the other side!

When my ZT arrived today it was absolutely gorgeous. I'm not normally a big carbon fiber fan, but this is especially pretty. Most everything on the knife was perfect- just amazing action, super smooth feel, predictably excellent lock up, and I was really surprised about how well it rode in the pocket given the size. The only flaws were a dull blade (no big deal) and an uneven grind in one spot (if it was a safe piece I might be unhappy, but for a user it makes zero difference). After a little work on a double stuff stone, the same stuff as in a sharpmaker but in a pocket stone format, she was super sharp and ready to go.

Since I didn't get the mail till this afternoon, the work load today was pretty light. Lots of plastic feed sacks were decimated and a little wood was shaved just for fun. At the end of today I have to say s110v may already be my favorite steel- the toothy edge is just incredible for work. I'm far less experienced in steels than most of the people around here. I've mostly used 1095, 8cr13mov, 14c28n, s30v, and s35vn so far in my knife owning experience, but if today is any indicator it'll be hard to go back. I haven't really had a chance to test edge retention thoroughly yet (s110v can be exceptional I've read, but the heat treat is obviously a major factor), but its the quality of the edge that has most impressed me. For work, I really prefer a good toothy edge and what I have at the moment is the finest I've ever used. My JYD in 14c28n has a far more refined feeling edge even with the same sharpening grits, as did a bradley I carried in s30v and even my Sebenza in s35vn. I can't wait to put it through more thorough use and see how it holds up, but at the end of day one I'm very happy and happy in a way I wasn't quite expecting!

Thanks for sharing the information. The 056X is a great design and I'd expect the 0560CBCF to be every bit as good and then some.

As for sharpening, I'm a sharpmaker guy myself and enjoy going through the 4 stones (diamond, medium, fine, ultra fine).

you will LOVE s110v, its edge retention is fantastic. Put it through its paces and you wont be displeased

Welp, I'm sold. I might have to accidentally buy one of these now.

I certainly don't know as much about steels as a lot of the folks around here do, but I can't get over how awesome this toothy edge is. What would have been at the most a knick with any of my other equally sharp knives just cut my thumb badly enough I had to break out superglue. I was a little worried I wouldn't like it and I'd be upset I sold my sebenza for this. I'm just unhappy I waited- I'm a huge huge fan already.

Edit: also, hopefully I can put it through some better tests tomorrow. I've been debating writing up a full review (to the best of my knowledge anyway). If anyone would like one, with any specific non measurement questions, I'd be happy to include them!
