560CBCF - squeak

Got my CBCF yesterday, but troubled by the squeaking noise it makes opening and closing.
The squeak seems to come from where the locking bar rubs against the base of the blade as it turns.
Loosening the pivot screw the point where the blade rattles side to side reduces the squeak, almost eliminates it.
Oil did not help.

The blade seems centred.

Any suggestions?
Is there some way to loosen the tension on the locking bar?

i would double check the ball in the lock bar, make sure its got just a drop of lube, but flipping these is what seems to quiet them up the most, sit in front of the tv and flip flip flip flip till ur ears bleed and ur fingers fall off lol. iit will get faster and quieter with time

Price has nothing to do with noise....My Butter knife in my drawer doesn't squeak either.. The CBCF uses a enclosed bearing system and sometimes the bearings will squeak at first, its the bearings contacting the enclosure. If you don't want to wait for it to break in take it apart and put some vaseline on the bearings. And like said it can be the detent ball too and will get quieter with break in.

So does it cut?

And I hope you didn't get any oil on the lockbar, if you lock starts sticking bad, this is why.

And don't forget to take some pics and let us see this bad boy... What number you get?

Hi gylman -

That is a new one on me, but two good bits of advice above -

I believe the detent ball is pressed into place and as such it does not rotate as one might expect (since it is a ball bearing etc. etc. ) -

As the knife get's used and worn in, I am sure the noise you are hearing will be eliminated -

Are you comfortable taking your knives apart? If you have the right tools and are confident in your skills (it does not take much...) you can take the knife apart, clean it up, get acquainted with the workings.

Lube it up and re-assemble it and see if your noise goes away.

Congratulations - that is one heckuva knife you just purchased!

I have never been a big frame lock guy. I do have the 301's and just got two 0560/1's. Love them. 0560 is number 6375. No issues whatsoever other than it kicked everything out of my pocket for awhile. Question- why does oil on the lockbar cause it to stick? I have never oiled anything on a knife other than the pivot or the blade itself but this statement caught my interest. Thanks in advance.

Pete

Causes the 2 steels to bind together because the lubricant makes the lock travel further then it should I believe.

Thar she is. 0076

Not sure I want to be taking this apart. Haven't done it before, and this probabl isn't the best choice for a "first".

Flipping it all day.. yeah, I can do that!

If you ever are still dissatisfied with the squeaking or doesn't seem to go away, let me know and you could send it to me and I could take it apart and lube it with some CRK Grease.

Looks Great!

Thanks. It's a beautiful knife, no doubt about it.
When I look at this piece of technology, and think how far knives have come from my first lockback as a kid, 40 years ago...

My 0560 also did this. A drop of dry teflon lube works wonders. All is quiet and smooth now with no lock bar stick.

I use Nano Oil with good luck. I wore my thump out flipping this beast when I got it. Incredible knife for sure.

Thanks to everyone. Knowing that this happened to others, and can be dealt with, is reassuring.

stil flipping away.... I think it's improving.

FYI, if you go to ebay and search for: Zero Tolerance lubricant
do not use it on your 0560CBCF. It's apparently not for knives.

Use a lubricant with a needle applicator to apply a tiny drop of oil into the detent hole then work the knife open and closed. (I prefer Nano Oil)

Use the knife and after many open and closing cycles the squeak will go away.My experience with the 0560 is that my squeaks and stick issues went away after about 1000 cycles.I found out that a very light lube like the amount that you want on the bore of a rifle is enough.Too much lube on the detent hole causes it to spread over the lock bar was causing my frame lock to stick. My experiences were to just break the knife in and my issues with noise or lock bar stick issues disappeared.I suggest that you can lube, but very lightly and give it many, many cycles to break in..This is what has worked for me and my 0560 is smooth as butter with no sticks of squeaks.I will do the same with my 560CBCF when the time comes, but the action and lock seem to be more smooth and refined out of the box.
Best of luck,
salmonkiller

My 0561 squeaks every once in awhile. I like to think it's just happy so it's singing:) I've opened and closed the knife more than 1500 times by now.

Sounds like there is something in the detent ball (liquid) and blade or there is micro galling. Best course of action is to clean the blade and frame lock if you can take it apart. If it still squeaks then apply a small amount of lubricant to the travel path of the detent ball.

If you don't feel comfortable opening it, then send it to kershaw.

A few days, and thousands of flips later.... sound is gone when I flip the knife open. When I close the knife, there's still a rubbing sound, but not a squeak. I'd say it's 90% better.
