561 Lock Rock... Can I fix?

I just got my 561 yesterday and I love it! I have a couple issues, first I can hold handle and move blade up and down and watch the lockbar pop in and out pretty bad. Second the detent is very soft. Now my question is if I take the knife apart (I know I can do this properly) and slightly bend the lock bar in will this fix these issues? Will this void my warantee if I do it? Don't want to waste Kershaw's time if this is all they are going to do. Let me know what you think.

I don't think a soft Detent can work out with time, like a hard one can. So this would need to be fixed. I doubt that bending the lock bar further would solve any of the issues. You'll still have that soft detent, and I believe the tang of the blade is concave, rather than a linear slope, so you'll be hitting a steeper part of the tang and likely the issue would be worse.

I think you'll have to send it in.

Damn, was hoping that putting more pressure on the detent would help that and maybe foce the lock bar into the slope more. The lockup came at about 70% quite a bit later than I was hoping for. Guess I'll see if anyone else has any suggestions maybe i'll just send it back in. What kind of turnaround time can I expect?

A few weeks. Kershaw keeps ZTs in house for only a few days. The rest of the time is shipping both ways. You can over night it to them to speed it up a bit, but they'll send it back UPS ground.

I have a Böker Overland Arms titanium linerlock, which suffered from a very weak detent. Bending the locking liner inwards helped a little bit as it afterwards exerted more force on the detent/ball. I know its a linerlock and not a framelock but the principle is still the same.

Maybe its worth giving it a shot? It could help with the lockrock issue too. IIRC some members have used this to remedy the lockrock on framelocks.

They are greet to work with, call them they will just say send it in. I sent my 550 to them ups ground and still had it back in two weeks, I also live on the other side of the country from them. I would guess they will change out the whole side with the lock bar. I maybe wrong on that

Try loosening all the scale screws on the G10 side then the pivot, deploy the blade a couple times then close the blade then torque the knife handle in your hand and re-tighten the scales screws then adjust the pivot to your liking or to your liking then a hair more and see what happens

So I called Kershaw just got off the phone and spoke with a lady in tech support. Told here I have a 0561 and the issue she said I need a Federal 18 form filled out or to bring it to a dealer and they have to send it in? She said they can't send it back to my house? I don't know what this is and was having a hard time understanding what she was trying to say, her english wasn't the greatest. What is a Federal 18 form and why do I need this?

Schony - I think there may have been a misunderstanding here. That form is only needed for automatic knives.... and this isn't one. You should be able to ship the 0561 with no problem and we can send it back to your house. Try giving our warranty department a call again. I'll let them know to expect you. :)

Thanks Lynda, I'll call back no worries. You guy's have great CS it was nice to not have to sit and talk to a machine for a half hour. Sometime I talk a little fast and am not as punctual as I should be on the phone, I probably confused her.

Do you recall who you spoke with?

Called back and got it figured out. He confirmed that adjusting the lockbar in may not take care of it and suggested sending it in. Going to send it off today or tomorrow not a big deal. There CS is unreal for a company of there size I don't know how they do it? You call and a person picks up the phone lol... refreshing =)

And that gentlemen and ladies, is how customer service is done.

First post was 11:30AM Kershaw response to issue, 1:37pm. 2hrs is pretty fast IMO.

Rock on ya'll, as long as the knives fit my hooves, you got a customer in me.
