With the new M.A.P in place it's probably going to be about $700.00

What's M.A.P.? I've been away from the forum for a while

MAP is Minimum Acceptable Price - IIRC - the 'A' may be something different (Allowable?) but carries the same idea. It is the minimum price that a dealer can sell a BM knife for. No more discount coupons, etc. BM now mandates a "lowest" price that no one can drop below. So most dealers will have the knife at the same (or close) cost.

Several pages on this particular knife and the impact of MAP on its price here. :)

Bottom line - the MSRP will be $700 according to BM's press release which will put MAP at around $595 or thereabouts.

I believe it will fall somewhere between a firstborn daughter and a secondborn son.

The price for the knife is available online at various retailers that have it for sale/preorder. It's around $600.

Yep, that's accurate info. The problem is, $575-$600 is still a ton of money for this knife. It's looks great, but once you do the math, you're money can go in a lot of different directions at that price point. As much of a Benchmade fan that I am, my problem with an overpriced (MY OPINION ONLY), knife such as this is that it is introduced during this time of No Coupon Codes and MAP/MSRP issues. The price of almost every Benchmade available has increased considerably, most of the Benchmade fans on this site have noticed, and the roll-out of a Gold Class t this price point seems a little ill-advised.

Of course, I should have posted in the first thread on this subject, but it took 2x to get my attention.

Happy New Years BTW!

Yup and brick and mortar, chain stores will each probably have a couple for $700 to $1000. At least they cant complain anymore, they got what they want. Overhead man! Overhead! Well this is over my head. Pass.

Map is minimum advertised price that means they might be cheaper but a place isn't allowed to advertise it.

I'm not sure why everyone is freaking out

You can find the prices lower you just either need to visit in person or call there is always wiggle.

Well, that is what minimum advertised price has always been, but now Benchmade has declared that the MAP is now minimum SELLING price, no coupons or further discounts allowed. Gone are the days of "see actual price in cart". It does make a difference for me (and many others) when deciding what knife/knives to spend my hard earned money on.

What we're seeing now is not an MAP setup. It used to be, where you never saw products advertised for less than 15% off of MSRP but you could put the product in your cart, enter a well-publicized code at discount, etc. to knock another 25% off of the price. That extra 25% off was not advertised and not seen until checkout.

The current situation is more of a Unilateral Pricing Policy (UPP). They can't sell for less than 15% off MSRP, period. Other members have reported calling in to some online retailers and asking specifically only to be told "we can't drop below 15% off, at all."

I can't really speak to visiting in person; there's no knife stores around here and the outdoor and gun stores don't carry much more than 551/556/710/940.

Well then that makes a difference. Its not m.a.p. then is price setting and yeah thats no fun.
guess im glad I bought that impel when I did.

that's a poor practice on a crazy spectrum. So instead of selling knives in a retail scenario they just wont sell...
