Hey all few weeks ago I saw some kitchen knives in 5cr15mov. 10 inch chefs knife at 57 rc for 10 bucks ...Thing is the point is rounded and the heel isn't sharpened for safety reasons.

Wife needing a new knife and I like to tinker to i bought the knife. Put a tip on it and sharpenEd the entire blade and I gotta say it's not a bad knife at all.

The steel has actually harder to grind than I expected and it takes a good edge , for 10 bucks mind you.

Anyway I like the knife and I like the steel , looking for a few more knives for the wife anybody have any suggestions on a good knife with a good steel that won't break the bank?

As long as it's plain edge and can be sharpened I'm all ears . Not really interested in the Walmart type brands though

10 inch chef's knife for 10 bucks... and not interested in the Walmart brands. I treasure my garage sale vintage European carbon steel finds (ie matching your $10 purchase) but I figure if there is an expectation of getting anything decent 'brand new' for that price then you have a serious problem.

I'm not saying 10 bucks is my budget , I was just saying I got a great knife for 10 bucks .

I've shopped around and found a few more expensive knives at a bargain and I scooped them up .

I'm guessing that was the Richmond "prison knife". I was curious about it myself but I don't have any power sharpening equipment and don't relish the thought of spending hours on the stones to sharpen out the intentionally blunt parts.
