Filled another hole in the collection this week. Picked up a NIB 5OT Bruin off ebay. Didn't go as high as most others, its a promotional knife with names etched on the blade. Seems to happen alot, guess most collectors don't like the etching. This is the brown delin model, not the green one. I've been tempted by the green ones a few times, but wanted to hold out for a brown one, don't want to have the brown and green breeding in the knife chest. They might come out camo and I'd be accused of going "tactical". All nonsense aside, its a great mid sized lockback that will be great for everyday carry, plus I'll be able to match it up with my 8OT and Toughtool for a all Schrade EDC setup that will cover all the bases. This model don't get talked about much, lets sing the praises of the 5OT a bit and give the Bruin its due.

I bought one of the Green Bruins from SMKW on closeout. I definitely like it! I wish it were brown though, to match the other OldTimers in my collection. And like many of the last OldTimers, mine is marked Schrade+.

You're right about the etching. Unless the marking is something I'm interested in, I wouldn't seek out advertising/promotional knives. A lot of knives are mass-sold to corporations for awards too.

I'm glade my knives don't breed! I'm not a focussed collector and I have a very wide range of knives - there would probably be some interesting and desirable offspring, but a lot of ugly bastards too. :)

I have a green one with a carbon steel blade. It is the only one I have seen that isn't stainless. Nice knife that rides well in the pocket.

Thanks for reposting that picture Irv, I'd forgotten how many vaiations of this pattern there are. Still know a place that has some of those green one hand opener models, maybe I'll have to drop by there soon.
