I think you are correct, it would not have received any notice had it not been found on George's estate. Not an uncommon artifact and almost everyone ever produced is still in existence, someplace. Can't say that about steel and iron tools.
An interesting tool and read.

It's funny. I love modern axes made of steel. The hand crafted stone tool, not so much. Way more interested in stone arrowheads, however. Not sure why that is...
