Got a new cane in yesterday. 34 inches tall, 90 degree bend for 5 inch long handle. Has rubber cane tip ( for 1" diameter shaft ) and handle and top 3 inches of shaft past the bend are wrapped with black tennis raquet handle material.

To see what the material looks like click on the following link:

The fighting sticks are 3/4 diameter and 26 inches long, with paracord to grip with. But it's the same material. Eric told me he'll made up more canes 36" tall, with 6" long handles, 1" diameter, and paracord wrapping. They will be called "Combat Canes". He also sells hiking sticks 1" by 48" tall, paracord wrapped. The very first hiking stick he made took the head off a rattler.

Any way, with the tennis raquet wrapping this thing looks like an anodized or painted aluminum tube cane. I blend in with the rest of the "sheeple" except maybe I look like more vulnerable prey.

Makes me feel like I'm walking around wearing a fleece over me to blend in. ;)

As Little Red Riding Hood said, "My what big teeth you have, Granny!" ( and that doesn't include the knife and gun ). :D

Although I haven't seen the cane, those sticks look like they're made for breaking things and hurting people.

AKA DEFENSE for old, feeble, handicapped, aledged easy target people, so perps think.

I dont know much about the walking cane aspect of things, but I have a Cold Steel Shambok (sp?), a plastic "whip" that you swing like a stick. It is pritty brutal...you can partially cut through t-shirts when you swing it fast enough. How about that for "riot control"? Of course I still prefer something like a Rem 870 or better yet belt fed.

Rusty, who is the Eric you were talking about. Is he at the sales@bladearts.com address? I'm interested in the hiking staff. Although my aluminum hockey stick with a straight wood tip (instead of the wood blade) works pretty good as a staff/pike.

The Eric I referred to is Eric Blair of Blair Edged Tools aka the Toxic Toy Shop on the Usual Suspect Net.

The above link will take you right there. The thread on walking sticks is probably back on page two by now. He also makes them by special order in longer lengths up to 59&1/2". Blanks come in 60" lengths and he loses a quarter inch cleaning up both ends.

Hey Rusty - whats the vibration like on impact? I once bought some acetal / delrin rod in 3/4" and wrapped the handles in paracord... proceeded to beat a tree and the shock transmitted was so bad that my hands hurts.

Of course you always get vibration, but with my rattan sticks, its perfectly manageable.

I'd be interested to hear your comments.

Cheers,

That's what the flex is for, from what I hear. So far no probs with vibration.
