Today at the monthly flea market something caught my eye. I went a little closer, and noticed it was very nice looking Collins felling axe! I was excited, then I noticed the price, $8.- on the sticker. Ooh, my excitement is rising now, so I picked it up to take a look.
That's when I noticed...
The bit is... unusual. It looks a little like this:
(
.)
Don't mind that dot, you can't start with a space apparently
Almost like someone got it stuck in some hardwood and tried to twist it out with a LOT of force.
So I talk to the guy, and he lets me have it for 6 bucks, so I figure the worst case scenario, I'm only out $6.
Photos will follow, later tonight, and I will post a progress report as things improve... I hope.
Later, I found an excellent condition BSA Plumb hatchet, but he wanted $55 for it. More than I wanted to spend at the moment, but it sure was hard to walk away from
Anyway, what do you guys think? Was it just a case of extreme axe abuse, or should I look into having the head re-heat treated because it's too soft?
