Well, I've been hard at work getting people in this little town that I live in to appreciate Himalayan Imports khukuris. Everybody who has seen them has been quite impressed, and once they get chopping with them, they seem to get all the more impressed. The first day, one of my friends was over for lunch and pipe smoking after lunch, and I decided to take out the ol' khuks to show him. We went to the wood pile out back and started splitting wood. I knew that this was hardly showing the khuk's actual power, but my friend was awe-struck nonetheless. He now sees why I need so many of them.
That night, another friend came over, and since we had more time, we went to the back of our field we have here, where we have a nice little forested area, which is just superb for testing khuks and other large knives. I take the 18" AK and easily hack through a 1" branch. My friend's eyes widen a little bit, and then he tries for himself with the BAS. Right through, and now he's smiling. We spend another half hour just walking through the woods, taking out different thicknesses of wood as we please.
The next night, there was a little gathering for the Mexico missions team, and afterwards, I got a ride home with a couple of the girls. I had told them about the khukuris during the ride back from Mexico, and thought to myself, "This is the perfect time to show them the khuks."
Well, I showed them the khuks, and they were rather impressed, and then we once again went back to the bush and did some more chopping. They could not stop laughing in glee while cutting through underbrush and blackberries. Then, we stumbled upon a 3" diameter tree, which they wanted me to cut down in 10 hits or less. Out comes the 18" AK again, and the tree falls with just 4 chops. They were sold.
Finally, the next day, I saw one of my friends at church and told him that the khukuris were in. He, of course, had to see these wonderful blades that I had been talking about for weeks, so he came over right after. Now, this guy is a bit of a bush man with experience with a lot of different big knives, but when he held a khuk, and then started using it, he was very excited. His daughter was along as well, and although she's always been a little scared of big knives, she had fun, and got a little more confident as the afternoon progressed.
These things are amazing, plain and simple. I've not met a single person who didn't like using them. I'm now getting requests of what each person wants whenever a sale comes up. Am I glad that I found out about HI khuks on Cliff Stamp's page? Heck yeah.
