Sorry I hadn't been around in a while. Here is my WIP on 6 knives.
I did all the rough grinding tonight on my 1x30 using my new 40 grit zircon belt.
I need to do bolsters next, but haven't drWn any for the toothpick or the Lanny's Clip (still not sure who Lanny is, or what that one should look like)
One is a Sodbuster so I will do it shadow. I just got a nice 1995 or 1998 Sodbuster tonight, I thought they used loveless, but I don't see a fisheye. Did Case use Corby's? Or something else? I am debating a 1/4" washer with a 3/32 pin through the middle. Maybe I can disappear the brass in the brass,.
I am also open to suggestions on scale material. I do have some exotic woods, and was thinking purple heart would look nice with brass bolsters on the sunfish. The lady's Leg is going to have nickel silver bolsters so I was thinking something black would be nice, though I wonder if there is a synthetic that looks like fishnet?
I am open to suggestions, sometimes I get lost in the technique and lose sight of the aesthetics, not to mention I really don't know all the things available to me.
Should we be using the platen more? I used it a lot on the steel, but I pinned the liners one to another, and as such freehand ground them off the table, mostly on the slack part of the belt. The platen was tall enough that I guess I could have free handed against it, but it didn't really occur to me to do so.
How am I doing so far?
