I've designed another knife and and placed an order for Christmas with one of the most popular guys on this forum, Bryan Breeden.

Anyway I got to thinking about a personal experiment, I figure I'm gonna try and use this knife as my main knife which includes both outdoor use and also kitchen use for 6 months.

The only exception might be to include a small Necker/pocket knife for when I'm in popular areas where a belt knife might draw unwanted attention.

All my other knives are gonna be locked away never to see light of day for the next 180 days or so !!!!!

My ideas on the perfect all round knife change as often as the seasons so I figured doing this might convince me that the actual knife isn't as important as your abilities and what you know.

I'm sure some of you are wondering what crazy design I came up.....saw back, gut hook, thing for cleaning out a horses hooves......well truth be told this is probably the most basic knife I've ever drawn up !!!;)

So what do ya think, good idea or have I finally lost the plot ?

Heck if things are goin well I might stretch it out to a year !!!!!:eek::eek:

Specs ,Photos,drawings,

Give the Brother hint...

You white folk always do stuff like dis

:)

I say yes, with this design you can do it just fine:D. Pitdog's design is a basic all round design:thumbup:.

Well Pitdog at least you have several months to think about it, since it will be Nov. before I start on it lol. Plenty of time to get think about it and see what comments you get.

Hey Pitdog, can you tell us what steel you are going to use ?

I bet If Bryan makes it that you want have any trouble using it for

6 months or a year .

I think it could be done, sure. But I am not sure I'd ever really want to do it, myself

i can't wait to get my kephart from bryan. i have been digging his blades since i first saw them. i think mine got started on couple weeks ago or so. i'm stoked for it too.

pit i think you can do it but i bet the boooshway will be calling out to you after a month of no loving

I think you will learn to adapt to the tool and become more proficient with it rather than going to get something else. Kind of fits with more skill less gear idea. I anxious to see what becomes of this Pit.

I know you can Pit!

Just send me the rest of your blades for safekeeping!:foot:;):D

Heck buddy my brain is so pickled from beer I can't remember what I read yesterday......I had kinda remembered someone doing something along those lines though !

How did you do, did ya manage it ?

Pitdog I am TOTALLY joking around with you. When I saw your post at first I wondered if you could read minds. Then I hoped you would do six months with the Knatchet! I look forward to your project. I will be interested to see how the knife you are going to use differs from the knife I am going to use and how we adapt ourselves to each task.

Regarding my original thread...

I had planned to start the project of "One Year One Knife".

Then my wife gave birth to our first and only child.

I am just now coming out of the foggy haze you parents know as the first year.

In addition to the birth of our child my wife changed jobs, I changed jobs, we changed daycares etc.

Bottom Line: Now that life is steady again I will begin my project on 01 December 2011.

Once I start I plan to post my progress here:

Pit, any hint on the design? I tried doing this a couple times and failed. I trend to gravitate towards thicker knives and they font excel in the slicing category. I'm thinking of trying it again with an 1/8 inch thick, 4 inch long kephart. Should do everything I need. Might even try it with my BHK bushcrafter.

I'm off for a few days now so I'll post up the design and how it came about sometime soon !

Pit, no offence, but I really don't think you can do this. Being a fellow forumite, I'm willing to help. Send me all your other knives, and you'll be good to go. I'll watch over them carefully. I promise.

Hide and watch. At some point, he'll post another knife and call it "Snicker's knife". :D

Sounds cool bro, I have been thinking about doing the same thing with a Lee Valley French Peasants Knife; its made out of SK5 and it would be kinda cool to go back in time as it were and stick to a simple tool for all my edged tasks.

I think I might end up doing it. ;)
