6 to big?

I just got a ESEE-6 and am loving it. It's a great knife, I had a 5' Ka-Bar and it was just not stout enough for my taste. Now that I have the 6 with the Molle back and am wearing it on a Molle belt at my 4 o'clock, I'm thinking it's just a bit big for when I sit down/take a knee or am running. Is the 4 a better choise for a good utility blade for a Mill/Utility purpose or worst case a fighter? I really wish they did a 4 with the glass breaker, I think that would be the perfect knife for me. I have an Izula for small stuff and just want something bigger to handle anything else that may come along.

I find the ESEE 4 is just right.

It is my most used knife in the outdoors.:thumbup:

Depends on what you're using it for. In the woods, I always take a five or six. Around town or during light days out , I've been carrying a four with a threes boot clip on it. Liking that setup a lot

I would prefer the 6, as the Izula can do most of what I would do with the 3 or the 4, however the 4 is the second best in the line up if you ask me :)

Yea, I really dig the 6 but it's just that I'm thinking the 4 might ride a little better where I have it attached. Does anyone have a pic of the 4 with a molle back attached to a "war belt"? It seems like they ride a bit higher (less hanging below) on the belt without digging into your ribs like the 6 does just using the molle clips.

At 3 o'clock it gets in the way of my pistol (on a drop leg holster).

I think the 4 is a perfect utility blade, but maybe try the 6 tied right in front of your holster? (using the straps of the holster)

The 4 is the "Goldilocks" of the Rat knives for woods/hunting. Easier to handle and it stays out of the way. That and the Izula are all I bring with me for knives (and my ubiquitous Leatherman XTi). Were I to go to combat I'd get the 5. I see no reason for the 6 beyond some people's penchant for "bigger, cooler blades." I usually have a light folder saw or the one that's in the Leatherman as well.

I think your right on it curveman. I think I'll hold onto the 6 for the present (cuz it's a great knife and I do kind of like having a big blade around), and just keep hopeing that they willcome out with a Mill version of the 4...I think that would be the best of all worlds for me.

When you say a Mill version of the 4, are you talking about the addition of the glass breaker? I don't know if you want to attempt it or not, but with a dremel and a little time I think you could modify your current 4 to suit your needs. I seem to remember someone doing that to a 3.... but I can't remember who it was.

For me personally, the ESEE-4 is the largest knife I will typically carry. For my uses, I see no need to go larger and the 4 is very comfortable and out of the way for behind the hip carry.

If you where the six at 3'oclock and put the sheath under the drop leg platform that could work. Or just git the fore it sounds like what you really want anyway.

Interesting idea on dremmeling a glassbreaker on to a 4...I'm not sure I would want to try it myself. Knowing me and dremmels I'd just get hurt or jack it up and it dosen't look like the end is shaped right for one. But yes, having the glass breaker on a 4 would be perfect for what I'm looking for, a blade not too small/not too big that could be used in a more "urban" as opposed to a bushcraft situation.

Maybe try attatching the 6 to a backpack strap up side down?
Yeah.!! I read about doing that here, and tryed it. It works Very Very well. And the flap keeps it from slippin away from ya. I would stick with the 6. A 5 is just a Thick 6 as I have seen it (and others) But give that one a shot. It will carry will. edgy

I had a 5' Ka-Bar
Was that a hand-and-a-half sword or more of a basic two-hander? ;)

I love my RC5 for everything you mention... you could grind your own glass breaker into a 4 - just point it up a bit...

People who have them rave about the 3mil, too.
